About Us

Our Story

Before we even graduated from college, my wife and I jokingly entertained the idea of one day owning a farm. We had no idea that it would be so soon.

We both understood how broken our food systems are -- conventional agriculture is the main driver of habitat loss and environmental degradation. We knew that we needed to be the change we wanted to see in the world. We don't believe that we need to harm the environment to grow food.

This is why we decided to grow our greens using using vertical farming technology, which reduces the land and water resources required to grow food. On top of that, our farm is 100% solar-powered! As our farm grows, we promise to remain committed to producing healthy, nutritious food using truly sustainable methods.

Our Philosophy

"The shorter the chain between raw food and fork, the fresher it is and the more transparent the system is." —Joel Salatin

When you walk through the produce isle of a grocery store, you really have no idea how long that “fresh” food has been sitting there. Store-bought produce often loses its freshness and health benefits after being shipped across the country and sitting on shelves for days to weeks. Not to mention the environmental impact conventional agriculture has (strain on water resources, carbon emissions from shipping and tilling, and habitat loss/degradation).

We do things differently at Healthy Habit Microgreens. When you place an order, we start growing your custom microgreens order. Ten days later, your microgreens are hand-delivered to your door, less than 24 hours after being harvested. You can also subscribe to get your choice of microgreens delivered to your door every 7 days. This means you get the freshest, tastiest, and most nutrient-dense food possible every single week -- all grown using organic soil, organic seeds, organic fertilizer, and filtered water. We are committed to sustainability so we NEVER use pesticides, and our microgreens are grown using vertical gardening technology that saves water and land.

Camryn

Hi, I'm Camryn! I'm 23 years old, and I grew up in Fresno County. I was surrounded by farms and farm animals throughout my childhood. Even before moving to Fresno, my family owned a couple chickens. We moved to the suburbs of Fresno County when I was six, so we couldn't keep the chickens -- but that experience had a lasting impact on me. When I was around eight years old, I really wanted to raise a cow. I begged my parents for one, insisting that our tiny backyard was big enough. Needless to say, they did NOT agree.

Outside of my love for farm animals, my childhood gave me a love for growing fruits and vegetables. I was the youngest of four children, but I found myself helping my mom grow tomatoes, strawberries, grapes, blueberries, blackberries, herbs, carrots, beets, and many other plants in our garden.

Beyond that, I have many hobbies and interests. I enjoy singing, drawing, and writing poetry in my free time. A few years ago I learned that I had curly hair, so I've fully embraced that as well. I aspire to empower people to become their best, healthiest, and most confident selves. Sharing the knowledge I've accumulated on caring for my curls has helped me to do just that. Our farm, Healthy Habit Microgreens, is another way I'm able to achieve my goal of empowering people to become their healthiest selves.

When I was 17 years old, I moved to Los Angeles to attend UCLA. There, I got my B.S. in Psychobiology, and I also took some ecology classes. Sustainability and mental health are both strong values of mine. Another thing I learned at UCLA is how interdisciplinary everything is -- what you eat heavily influences not only your physical health, but your mental health as well. As our society evolves, our food systems must evolve to match our needs while keeping our planet healthy, too.

After I graduated from UCLA, I moved to Santa Clarita with my husband, Ramal. Read about him below!

Ramal

Hi, my name is Ramal and I’m 23 years old. I grew up in the San Fernando Valley and moved to Santa Clarita when I was 17 years old.

When I’m not doing my farm chores, you can find me hanging out with my fish. I am a huge fish tank nerd and I could stare at fish all day. I also love designing and building things.

I have a B.S. in Ecology, Behavior and Evolution from UCLA. My education in the environmental sciences made me realize how damaging agriculture is on the environment.

Ironically, I gravitated towards a career in agriculture because I felt that was where I could make the greatest impact. I envisioned a different approach to growing food that’s more sustainable. I aspired to one day start a farm that has minimal environmental impact and grows produce that ends up directly in the hands of the community.

This aspiration became Healthy Healthy Habit Microgreens.

I believe that the future is full of people like my wife and I, who grow food locally and nourish the community that they live in. I’m excited to be a part of the urban agriculture movement.
